IT’S been just over two months since Sue Ryder launched its Cost of Dying appeal, outlining the significant demand on our palliative care services at a time when the cost of providing our care is increasing at an alarming rate.

The response from our local community here in West Yorkshire has been phenomenal, and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all their generous support so far.

Every donation and pledge of support really means a great deal to us and the families we care for from Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice at Oxenhope.

Many local people will have seen for themselves the invaluable care our expert teams provide to loved ones in their final days, and we desperately want this same level of care to be there for the estimated 55 per cent more people who are set to need our help by 2030.

Our plight is far from over, which is why we’re asking your readers to continue to support us, so no one is left to grieve or die alone without the specialist care and support we can give from Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice.

Your donation could help us recruit more palliative care nurses to ensure people’s last days can be filled with love, surrounded by family and friends. Or your support could help us meet our growing bills, with the cost of delivering an hour of our care now costing us nearly 20 per cent more.

We are urging local people and companies to please support us.

From organising your own fundraising events or stepping out under the stars with us at this year’s Starlight Hike Worth Valley, taking place on October 7 at Oxenhope Railway Station, to local organisations supporting Sue Ryder through charity of the year partnerships, our local fundraising team would really love to hear from you.

Thank you in advance to all your readers for supporting Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice.

With best wishes.

Sarah Bottomley, service director, Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice
