The Wedding Singer – Bradford Alhambra

THE MUSICAL version of the hit 1998 romantic comedy movie has finally come to the professional stage in Bradford.

This musical, set in America during the 1980s, is an enjoyable ensemble show with all the performers pulling their weight.

The songs are very upbeat and original, fitting the show perfectly, and the singing and dancing was fantastic on Tuesday’s opening night.

The scenery was simplistic, constantly on the move and very effective, working well with the 80s feel of the show.

The Wedding Singer movie starred Adam Sandler as a wedding singer whose magic touch left him after he was dumped before his wedding.

Drew Barrymore played Julia, the waitress at one of his wedding gigs who has also fallen prey to an unsuitable relationship.

Unsurprising the pair fall in love.

Cassie Compton, who played Julia, took a little getting used to as her American accent appeared a little forced, however she had a lovely singing voice.

The part of Holly was played by Tara Verloop, and although she was the understudy you could not tell as she did a fantastic job and fit the part perfectly.

My eyes kept getting drawn to Mark Pearce who made up part of the ensemble, playing several characters, each one different, but putting his heart and soul into every one.
