THERE are plenty of things to keep families entertained at East Riddlesden Hall this Easter holiday... including joining in with wassailing – a traditional celebration of prosperity.

Throughout the week, we’ll be decorating the apple trees with messages of good luck and singing a song or two to help them flourish.

It was once believed this custom would help the trees to produce a fruitful harvest.

Inside the house, a traditional banquet is laid to welcome you into the Great Hall and will take the house back to its farming roots. Celebrations are already underway and will run from Saturdays to Wednesdays until April 23, between 10.30am and 4.30pm.

It’s that time of the year again when we team up with Cadbury to offer you the ultimate day out, and we have a feeling bunny will be getting up to his usual tricks again.

Join us between 9.30am and 4.30pm between April 14 and 17 to follow the clues around the garden on a Cadbury Egg Hunt. Search high and low for little eggs and bunnies and use their letters to spell out an Easter word.

Each completed hunt will be rewarded with a delicious Cadbury treat, and the money from every trail sheet bought will help us to look after East Riddlesden Hall for generations to come. Visit easter.cadbury.co.uk to find out about other Cadbury Egg Hunts nearby.

In addition to the outdoor Easter activities, we’ll continue to offer you the chance to learn more about the historic collection we look after.

During April, we’re giving 15 minutes of fame to a bloodletting bowl. This particular bowl was used by physicians from about 1675.

We’ll be taking a closer look at the object and hearing stories of this once trusted procedure at 3pm every Wednesday and Sunday.

We’ve had excellent feedback from visitors who have already joined us on the Opening up the House tour. These tours will run every Wednesday in April at 9.30am.

Come along and find out how we get the house ready to welcome the first visitors of the day. You’ll be welcomed into the house by the conservation team and given the opportunity to view the house before we open to the public.

Discover why we choose to flood certain rooms with light and leave others cloaked in darkness. Understand how we balance the conservation needs and visitor experience needs of this listed building.

A light breakfast with the house steward is included, and booking is essential, by calling 01535 607075. Tickets cost £25 per person and tours are limited to a maximum of ten people. This special experience would make a great gift.

East Riddlesden Hall is open Saturdays to Wednesdays from 10.30am to 4.30pm, with the last admission at 4pm.
