Now it is June, and summer is here (despite the weather's best efforts to suggest the opposite) our Summer Special offer has begun.

"Children go free" throughout June, July and August when they are accompanying a full fare-paying adult who is buying a Day Rover ticket.

The Rover ticket gives passengers the freedom of the line on the day of their visit, as well as access to the museums based at Ingrow. Up to two children can travel for free per adult.

The terms and conditions are all available on our website at kwvr.co.uk as are the train times.

We are now running every day until September 13, and then on weekends for the rest of the month of September, so there is plenty of opportunity to make the most of the special offer.

As well as enjoying the sights and sounds around the railway, don't forget to sample the offerings of our on-board real-ale bar.

Running the railway seven days per week involves a huge effort for our volunteers, who are complemented over the summer by a handful of paid staff to help us keep the wheels turning.

But it is still the volunteers who work behind the scenes to turn out the fleet of 1950s carriages and who do a huge amount of the work on lovingly restoring the steam engines that haul the trains.

It is also volunteers who drive and fire the locomotives, and maintain the stations with their period features, and if the summer weather does not arrive in earnest soon, they will continue to keep our station fires burning to keep passengers warm!

They also guard the trains, blowing their whistle and waving the green flag to give the "right away" to the locomotive crew.

We have so many operational roles that it takes a volunteer workforce of over 500, trained and qualified for various roles, so please get in touch if you would like to join our team.

In addition to the core operation, we have a number of projects that we would like to progress in the coming months, which require us to find volunteers with particular project management, financial and commercial skills.

We are keen to improve our engineering facilities at Haworth, which are vital to keeping the ever-ageing fleet of steam engines in operational order.

We also want to restore the water tower at Keighley to its former glory – which will give us a visitor centre at the station – and to continue to develop our museum and exhibition at Oxenhope, along with the planned café development at the station.

We are fundraising to bring back into traffic one of the steam locomotives that hauled the re-opening special in 1968.

This would mean that in 2018 we can mark the 50th anniversary of the preservation society's achievements in style, but the work is estimated to cost an additional £125,000 over and above the more usual £175,000 for a ten yearly overhaul for a locomotive of this size.

We would be very grateful to hear from people who have the skills to help us realise our ambitions.
