SANTA Claus is returning to a Harden nursery after raising £75,000 there during the past two decades.

The charity partnership between the Steven H Smith Garden Centre and Keighley Lions has continued for 20 years.

Lions volunteers man Santa’s popular grotto at the garden centre for the seven weekends up to Christmas.

Santa Claus went along to the garden centre this week to meet staff and present a cheque for £3,172, proceeds from last year’s grotto.

David Ogden, from Keighley Lions, said money from the grotto went into the Lions charity account, which funded a wide range of good causes throughout the year, particularly poorly children.

He added: “Every penny we raise is given away. Stephen Smiths have done a marvellous job for us every year.”

The grotto is organised each year by long-time Lions member Avril Emmerson with help from other members.

This year the grotto will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30 pm to 4pm, until December 22.

In another activity organised by Keighley Lions, Santa Claus and his sleigh will set off on December 1 for ten evenings collecting money in Keighley and the surrounding area.
