A 32-YEAR-OLD Keighley man has today been remanded in custody accused of burgling two charity boxes from the Five Rise Locks Cafe in Beck Lane, Bingley.

John Lennon, of Nightingale Street, is also charged with breaking into H Brook DIY shop, in Lawkholme Lane, Keighley, and stealing the cash till drawer.

Lennon, who appeared in custody at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court, denies both alleged burglaries, said to have taken place on June 19.

He pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to five offences of shoplifting.

Prosecutor Linda Fowler made a successful application to remand Lennon back into custody.

She said the charity boxes allegedly stolen by Lennon contained a total of about £50.

The case was adjourned until January 2 when a trial date will be fixed.
