I READ with amazement the article regarding the carer who conspired to defraud an elderly lady – ‘Fraud’ carer has to pay £1 (Keighley News, August 27). With reference to the Keighley woman, my question is why was she not sent to jail?
I cannot believe a judge thinks a 12-month community order and an order to pay back £1 in any way fits this crime. The sentence is a joke.
Most carers who earn a minimum wage would need to work about 20 months to earn the amount she criminally benefited by.
As a carer myself, it beggars belief that someone who should be above reproach could commit such a crime.
