Police have made a renewed plea for information about a former Keighley man found murdered two months ago.

Alexander James Ash, who was 74, died from smoke inhalation at his home in Boston, Lincolnshire, in the early hours of March 12.

Mr Ash - a single man - managed a hairdressing business at 143 Skipton Road, in Keighley, in the late 1970s.

It is believed he lived above the salon and at the time may have used his mother's maiden name, Keene.

Det Supt Roger Bannister, of Lincolnshire Police, who is heading the murder investigation, said: "Mr Ash is thought to have managed the business around 1976/7 and we think it closed around 1979.

"We believe that Mr Ash, who may have been known as James Keene at the time, ran the salon with a business partner called Roger, who was thought to be in his fifties.

"We are keen to trace Roger and anyone who was employed at the salon or had connections with the business."

He said information about Mr Ash - who in the 1970s performed as part of a cabaret act - was being followed up by officers, but more details were needed to help build up a picture of his life.

Det Supt Bannister added: "There is still much work to be done in relation to this murder inquiry and we remain committed to bringing those responsible to justice.

"The investigating team is leaving no stones unturned and that's why it's important to trace anyone who had dealings with him.

"This is a very complex inquiry, made challenging because James really did seem to keep himself to himself.

"However, this doesn't deter us and we continue to urge anyone with information about Alexander James Ash to call the investigation team direct on 01529 308609 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111."
