Keighley's recycling centre will be open today (New Year's Day) to take any flood-damaged items from residents hit by the recent high water hell.

Bradford District Council (BDC) has announced the Royd Ings Avenue site will be in operation between 8am and 4pm, with openeing hours extended until 4pm on January 2. The requirement for permits has been suspended.

Council staff and colleagues from partner agencies, including the Police, Fire & Rescue, Environment Agency, Incommunities and The Army, have been working throughout the Christmas holiday to deal with devastating effects of flooding in Bradford district.

That work is continuing to deal with the consequences of the flooding, to support those affected, protect lives and properties and assist with both reducing water levels and cleaning up homes, businesses and streets.

Hundreds of homes and businesses have been flooded, with the worst affected in parts of Apperley Bridge, Shipley, Baildon, Bingley, Keighley, Stockbridge, Riddlesden and Haworth. Some residents had to be evacuated from their homes and Keighley Leisure Centre was opened as a rest centre.

BDC is also working with residents and community flood groups to help and support people in their own neighbourhoods and with the public services on the clean-up.

The council's Neighbourhood Services teams are out and about working to collect flood-damaged house contents as quickly as possible. Residents are asked to help by taking other materials, such as rubble, tyres and electrical goods, to one of the household waste recycling centres.
