FOUR Skipton Swimming Club members qualified for the prestigious British and National Summer Championships at Sheffield's Ponds Forge.

Abbie Hampshire competed in the British Championships, and Ethan Camsey, Hannah Raistrick and Ned Sharp in the National Championships.

This was the second year of qualifying at national level for talented 14-year-old Hannah, who took part in both the 50 metres freestyle and 50m butterfly, reaching the finals of both.

She finished eighth in the freestyle in 28.29sec and seventh in the butterfly in 30.16, achieving personal bests in the heat and final.

Ned had an amazing weekend, competing against swimmers up to two years older.

The 12-year-old qualified for the 13-14 years 50m freestyle in 27.01, coming sixth in his heat in a personal best of 26.27 to reach the finals, where he was fifth in 26.30.

Swimming at his first national competition, Ethan made his debut for the club by qualifying in the 15 years 200m butterfly.

He came 13th in the heats in 2min 22.44sec, narrowly missing his qualifying time of 2.21.43 and the finals.

Abbie reached the finals in all her events.

The 16-year-old was tenth in the 100m backstroke, 12th in the 100m freestyle and ninth in the 50m freestyle.

Qualifying and competing at this level is a huge achievement, and all four swimmers performed brilliantly and gained valuable experience, which they can continue to build on next season.

Skipton Swimming Club are now looking forward to celebrating everyone’s achievements over the past year in their annual presentation evening next month.

Meanwhile, Skipton members competed in the Airedale & Wharfedale Gala Two.

In the girls' 2L breaststroke, Phoebe Roe came second in 58:48, while Betsy Wolfenden-Smith was second in her heat in 60:64, missing out on the final.

Joseph Thomas gained a bronze in the boys' 2L breaststroke in 51:41, Jacob Forrest and Marcus Lilley coming second and fourth in their respective heats in 60:98 and 60:06.

Hermione Roe and Hebe Picking won gold and bronze in the 2L butterfly in 34:42 and 40:39, while Megan Baines won the 4L freestyle in 1:11:34, Arabella Wade-Rayne having a good swim of 1:24:06 but missing out on the final.

Louis Robson was third in his heat of the 4L freestyle of 1:13.24, again missing out on a final.

Hermione, Megan and Isobel Harrison all reached the final of the 2L ladies' open backstroke, finishing first, third and sixth respectively.

Louis competed in the men's open 2L backstroke, coming second in his heat in 39:92.

Jacob, Marcus, Harvey J and Joseph T took part in the 4x1 length individual medley team event, and thought they’d taken gold only to be disqualified after what they felt was a nit-picky error.

Isobel H, Elspeth, Gabriella and Megan won the 4x2 length freestyle and took home the shield.
