KEIGHLEY town councillors will tonight (April 20) vie for the chance to become the town’s next mayor.

Councillors Mohammed Nazam and Barry Thorne will both give a presentation about their aims and objectives at a council meeting in Keighley Town Hall at 6.30pm.

Ian Dermody, the only councillor nominated for the post of deputy town mayor, will give a similar presentation.

Although fellow councillors will hear the presentations tonight, the actual election will not be held until the town council’s annual general meeting on May 18.

Cllr Nazam was proposed by Cllr Peter Corkindale and seconded by Cllr Julie Adams.

Cllr Thorne, a former Lord Mayor of Bradford during his days as a Bradford councillor, was proposed by Cllr Philip Shaw and seconded by Cllr Andrea Walker.

During their year of office the mayor and deputy mayor attend many public functions and meet a host of community groups across Keighley and surrounding villages.
