RESIDENTS of a new Steeton housing estate have called for a long-awaited cycle path to be opened.
The proposed path would link Cross Hills, Eastburn and Steeton to the Silsden/Steeton railway station by way of the new Redrow estate off Thornhill Road.
The path was mentioned in plans for the estate, and housing developers Redrow have completed the section of cycleway running through the estate.
Steeton-with-Eastburn parish councillors this month discussed the query from residents, and promised to contact them with an update,
Chairman David Mullen told fellow councillors that the problem was a 50-metre section running between Steeton Grove and a pair of large iron gates, across land owned by the Vehicle Inspectorate.
Although the Inspectorate have no objection in principle to the cycle track going over their land, Bradford Council planners objected due to the the potential risks of vehicles and cyclists in the same place.
Cllr Mullen said he had been involved in many discussions with council officers about the issue, and planned to talk about it with Keighley MP John Grogan this month.
