MP Philip Davies is supporting a review aimed at ensuring newspapers have a "viable future" in the digital age.
He said local papers were the "life and soul of communities" and offered something which could not be provided by national media.
And he vowed to back any measures designed to help protect the press' future.
"Local newspapers are having a difficult time with internet advance and 24-hour news," said Mr Davies, whose Shipley constituency includes Cullingworth and Denholme.
"The internet has created opportunities for new platforms, but has also raised questions about the future of the printed press.
"I support the Government review as I want our papers to have a viable future.
"Local papers hold people in positions of power to account and focus on issues that matter to our communities. That would be lost if it were not for the papers."
Prime Minister Theresa May last week announced a review into press sustainability.
She feared the closure of titles across the country was a "danger to our democracy".
