THORBJØRN Risager And The Black Tornado will play the next Keighley Blues Live gig at the Octagon.

The dynamic seven-piece European Blues Band Of The Year winners will be at the Bradford Road, Sandbeds, venue on Friday March 16, is one of just three dates in the UK.

Fans from the band’s native Denmark have known about them for 14 years, but it was not until 2014 and the release of their sixth album Too Many Roads that they burst into the consciousness of UK blues fans.

This was through a handful of headline-stealing festival appearances, the most recent being the Carlisle Blues Festival where they appeared second on the bill the Saturday’s headline act.

A Keighley Blues Live spokesman said: “Supergroup The Boom Band had the unenviable task of following The Black Tornado - in fact at the beginning of their set one of them said words to the effect of ‘how are we supposed to follow that?’

“As John Tate from Sedgefield Blues Club posted on our Facebook page: ‘This is the must see band of the past year’. We couldn’t agree more.

“Winning the ‘European Blues Band Of The Year’ accolade in 2017 has considerably raised the band’s profile, which has, as you might expect, had a knock-on effect on the fee they can command.

“Thankfully, we reached our agreement with them to perform at KBL before the award was announced!”
