PEOPLE looking for a new way to get outdoors and active have been invited to try out something new in Denholme next month.

Denholme Sailing Club is inviting individuals and their families to come and try sailing for free at Doe Park Water Activities Centre on Sunday May 6.

A club spokesman said: “Whether someone is completely new to the sport or looking to get back on the water, ‘Royal Yachting Association Push the Boat Out’, which takes place throughout May is the perfect time to give it a go.

“The nationwide sailing event will see thousands of people taking part, with open days and taster sessions taking place at sailing clubs and centres across the country.

“Sailing can be as physical or as relaxing as you want to make it.

“You can sail with others or on your own, do it competitively or potter about and just enjoy the gentle escape of being outside in the elements.”

Denholme Sailing Club commodore Jason Gallagher said: “We’re inviting the local community to come down to have a go at sailing, see what our club has to offer and get involved. Who knows, they might just get hooked!”

Starting at 11am, on May 6 there will be a range of activities taking place.

Participants will be able to try out sailing for themselves in the club’s boats, accompanied by one of the group’s experienced sailors.

People can also sign up to take part in a Start Sailing course accredited by the Royal Yachting Association.
