AN author from Cross Roads who has written children's books about King Richard III signed copies close to where the monarch is buried in Leicester.

Carol Fellingham Webb, who writes under the pen name Alex Marchant, has completed both The Order of the White Boar and The King’s Man, telling the story of England’s most controversial king through the eyes of a young page in his service.

On Saturday (June 2) she took part in the book signing at the King Richard Visitor Centre.

Her books narrate the final three years in the life of the historical King Richard, rather than the Shakespearean villain.

Richard III's body was found under a carpark in Leicester in 2012, where it had lain for centuries following his death in battle.

Ms Fellingham Webb said: "It was emotional to finally visit King Richard's grave site, and bizarre to pull into the actual carpark where he had lain undisturbed beneath the Tarmac for so long.

"The visitor centre staff were very welcoming and complimentary about both books.

"And to my delight the owner of falconry centre Hawkwise, had come in specially and brought a beautiful peregrine falcon to star in the photo opportunities.

"I signed books, chatted to lovely visitors, and hopefully encouraged more people to consider whether King Richard was the monster Shakespeare painted him to be, or rather a real man caught up in extraordinary circumstances whose reputation needs to be reassessed."
