MEMBERS of Keighley Ahmadiyya Muslim Association have given a boost to the town's Salvation Army.

They collected goods such as pasta sauce, tinned meat, fish and cereal at their mosque to donate to the church's foodbank.

Mujeeb Rahman, a spokesman for the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, said: "Increasing numbers of families are relying on foodbanks to feed themselves and we wanted to play our part during Ramadan to provide assistance to people in crisis."

Members also cooked a chicken curry and served it to around 50 vulnerable and homeless visitors to the High Street church.

Mr Rahman added: "Islam teaches us that it is our duty to provide a safety net for vulnerable members of society.

"Individuals find themselves in difficult situations for various reasons and one must not be judgmental.

"It was a pleasure serving them and we hope to support the great work of the Salvation Army in the future.

"Our aim is to serve humanity and promote our motto – Love for all, hatred for none."

Chris Bown, for Keighley Salvation Army, said the church was delighted to receive the help and support of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association.

"The generous donation of food for the community meal and for the foodbank was very much appreciated," she added.

"I know everyone enjoyed their supper and would want me to thank the Muslim association on their behalf."
