SCHOOL’S nearly out and we’ve got lots of things to keep the whole family entertained this summer.

You can make mud pies, build a den, weave with natural materials and play traditional games on the lawn.

We’ll also be selling mini bug and bird houses in the shop that can be decorated in the craft room.

You can try your hand at making butter and discover how it was traditionally made on Sunday July 1, 16 and 28 , and August 12 and 16.

Uncover the history of butter-making at one of these drop-in sessions and race against your family to see who can make butter the fastest - £2 per participating person.

Monday and Tuesday garden talks will continue until the end of July.

Every Monday we have a tour of the herb border between 1pm and 2pm.

Herbs have long been used medicinally and in cooking, and the herb border here was traditionally the family’s medicine cabinet and pantry.

You’ll find out about the wonderful properties of the herbs growing here and watch a demonstration of them being put to good use after.

The talk is £2 per person and tickets can be bought from the shop upon arrival.

The Greener Gardening tour will take place every Tuesday between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

On this tour you’ll discover how we keep the gardens looking beautiful without causing harm to the environment or the wildlife living here.

A relaxed approach is taken with this tour and you’ll discover just how easy it is to use our organic methods at home to help your garden become wildlife friendly.

From July 24 we’ll be running volunteer-led activities every Tuesday and Saturday between 1pm and 3pm. We’ll start with making a home for bugs: wriggly, tickly and slimy ones - every bug needs a home.

Between August 7 and 18 we’ll be making mini rafts and sailing them on the duck pond – will yours set sail or sink to the bottom?

Finally, we’ll be cooking on a campfire between August 21 and September 1 . Online booking is essential for the campfire activity, £5 per person. All other activities are free with general admission prices.

This summer you can enjoy the great British tradition of outdoor theatre at its very best when you join us on August 22 for an evening performance of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

Performed by The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, the UK’s most popular outdoor touring Shakespeare company; this is a show not to be missed. Picnics are welcome from 6.30pm.
