CULLINGWORTH Gala has been hailed a huge success.

Organisers said they were delighted with how the day went.

"It was brilliant," said gala chairman, Leonie Padgett.

"We had a good procession and there was lots going on at the field.

"It was really busy, with plenty of people coming along."

But Leonie added that Sunday's sweltering temperatures did have an effect.

"I don't think people stayed quite as long as usual at the field because it was just so hot!" she said.

"However, everything went well and everybody enjoyed themselves.

"It was the tenth gala organised by the current committee.

"We'd like to say a big thank-you to everyone who helped out. It's a team effort and without that support, the event couldn't take place.

"And thanks to all those who attended and made the event a success."

The procession set off from Station Road and made its way through the village to the cricket field.

It was led by Kelly the Elephant, and a samba band.

Gala Queen Holly Stevenson was attended by Eliott Rudkin and Katy Woodhead.

Other participants included the pre-school, Cullingworth Primary School and Diamond Dance.

Attractions at the field included children's races, performances from the school choir and Cullingworth Community Choir and displays by Diamond Dance and Luna Dance.

There was also a dog show, bouncy castle, stalls and games.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the new village hall.
