COUNCILLORS have given the go ahead for houses to be built on the grounds of a 16th century hall in Crossflatts.

Bradford Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee this week approved the scheme to create 10 homes at Grade II listed Ryshworth Hall, off Keighley Road.

The plans, submitted to the district council by UK Asset Resolution, will see six new houses built, the conversion of a building on the grounds to create three new dwellings, and the conversion of another to form a single dwelling.

In recent years buildings on the site have been used for a climbing centre and a garage.

The committee were told original plans for the site, that included an extra four homes, had been scaled down.

The plans for the extra four houses were dropped following objections from Historic England.

Council planning officers had recommended the scheme for approval, with a report to the committee saying: “The proposal is considered to represent a sustainable form of development and is acceptable in principle.” Committee members unanimously approved the plans.
