A WELL attended weekend service inaugurated a new cemetery plot in Keighley which marks 100 years since the end of the First World War.
Town chaplain Reverend Dr Jonathan Pritchard, Keighley MP John Grogan and town mayor Councillor Fulzar Ahmed were among about two dozen people at the event in Utley Cemetery on Saturday. (July 28)
Also present were members of Keighley's Royal British Legion branch, including standard bearer Gordon Shaw and bugler Judith Hales.
The plot, which has been planted with poppies and also features a small plaque, was prepared by members of the Friends of Utley Cemetery group.
Speaking after the ceremony friends volunteer Sheila Godsell, who is also chairman of Keighley Royal British Legion, said: "It was a lovely day and the sun even came out for us.
"I'd like to thank everyone who came along, including Mr Grogan, Cllr Ahmed, Reverend Pritchard and also legion secretary Jackie McGinnis, who arranged for the dignitaries to attend.
"This wouldn't have been possible without the Friends of Utley Cemetery, and thanks also to Bradford Council's cemetery manager who gave permission for the commemorative plot to be there."
