THE local branch of the RSPCA should receive a financial boost this autumn, courtesy of the fundraising efforts of a Keighley resident.

Luke Reece, a telecom engineer who lives in Fell Lane, is taking part in the Yorkshire Marathon on October 14 in support of RSPCA Craven and Upper Wharfedale branch.

Mr Reece, 22, who is himself a dog owner, said previous publicity surrounding abuse of animals had made him keen to get behind this charity.

"The RSPCA does a lot of good work in Keighley to help pets and other animals, and I want to support their mission," he said. "It's a really good cause.

"I've been in training since I got back from holiday three weeks ago and so far it's going well. I'm running four nights a week, though it is getting tougher.

"I have run a half marathon distance before, but never a full marathon."

People prepared to sponsor Mr Reece can e-mail enquiries@rspca-craven.org.uk to request a sponsorship form, or visit justgiving.com/fundraising/lukestephenreece to donate online.

The 2018 Yorkshire Marathon sets off from central York, then follows a route out to Stamford Bridge before returning to the start point.
