KEIGHLEY-district schools are being offered free educational resources by Northern Powergrid.

The electricity distribution company has produced downloadable plans with materials to deliver STEM and citizenship lessons for seven-to-14-year-olds.

Topics covered, through hands-on activities, range from renewable energy and exploring environmental considerations to budgeting household energy costs.

The resources were drawn-up in conjunction with teachers, pupils and educational organisations.

Siobhan Barton, for Northern Powergrid, said: "We think it's really important that students understand the vital role the power network plays in everyday life, so we used the real-life experiences of our engineers to create scenarios that will deliver meaningful lessons and give pupils an insight into the world of work.

"The lesson plans, which were tried and tested in six secondary schools, were given positive feedback by teachers and pupils.

"The plans have everything required to deliver a one-hour STEM-focused lesson, including power-point presentations and worksheets."
