PLANS to build a house in the back garden of a Victorian Ilkley Home have been approved by councillors.
The application, by S Burgess, would see a detached garage at behind 2 Clifton Road demolished and a new house built in its place.
Designed by architect George Smith, the house is on a large plot at the corner of Clifton Road and Wheatley Road.
The application was discussed by Bradford Council's Keighley and Shipley Area Planning Panel on Wednesday.
Helen Kidman, from Ilkley Civic Society, spoke against the plans, and said: "We would like to see this building listed. This is an important house in the town and we believe this new house would damage this."
Martyn Burke, Senior Planning Officer, said the house was "distinguished" and gave character to the local area, but was not listed or in a conservation area.
Councillors voted to approve the plans.
