KEIGHLEY’S Air Cadets unit will hold an open evening at its base in the town at the beginning of next month.

The event will be at 7pm on October 1 at the Drill hall in Lawkholme Lane.

Potential cadets will be able to meet existing members of the group as well as serving officers of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

Light refreshments will be served during the evening.

A spokesman for Keighley’s Air Cadets said: “We meet on a Monday and Wednesday from 6.45pm to 9pm.

“We have ex-cadets who’ve gone on to join the RAF or even become commercial airline pilots.

“We get to do a huge variety of activities such as flying, target shooting – including weapons handling tests – and adventure training.

“The unit offers a range of team sports – including netball, hockey, rugby and football – athletics, drill and academic studies such as BTECs along with other vocational qualifications.

“And there is the chance to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh award, and go on trips to British RAF stations or overseas to Gibraltar and Cyprus.

“Many of our unit’s activities are well subsidised, so there is very little cost involved.”

The Keighley Air Cadets are open to youngsters and young people between 13, (or aged 12 when beginning school year eight) and 17 years of age.
