A PRESENTATION about type two diabetes will be staged at a Keighley medical surgery next week.

Dr Andrew Pettit a consultant in diabetes and endocrinology at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust will be speaking at Long Lee Surgery, in Long Lee Lane, from 6pm on Thursday October 4.

In what is the second of his talks for patients and carers at Kilmeny Group Practice Patient Participation Group, he will speak about the causes, risks and range of treatments available for this kind of illness.

He will address topics such as dietary issues, medications and their potential side effects, and links with high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and smoking. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and all are welcome to attend.

According to the charity Diabetes UK, more people than ever now have diabetes, and more people than ever before are at risk of contracting type two diabetes.

A spokesman for the charity warned: "If nothing changes, more than five million people will have diabetes in the UK by 2025."
