THE first ever Bradford Manufacturing Week will highlight the career paths available in this industry to pupils at South Craven School.

The week, which runs from October 8 to 12, involves more than 75 businesses from Keighley and Bradford districts opening their doors to students from years nine to 13.

A spokesman for South Craven said: "We're delighted to be taking part in the week.

"It aims to introduce the district’s manufacturers to young people and boost apprenticeship numbers by creating more inspired, informed and ‘work ready’ applicants for the sector."

Led by West & North Yorkshire Chamber and backed by the newly-formed Bradford Economic Partnership, the event is the brainchild of Nick Garthwaite. He is president of Bradford Chamber and managing director of International Chemicals and detergents manufacturer Christeyns.

As part of the week, South Craven will be paired with several local businesses including BASF, Guysons International, Fibreline, Advanced Actuators, Barclays and Morrisons.

These companies will offer a select number of students the opportunity of a behind-the-scenes site tour or a chance to talk to employers.
