PEOPLE in South Craven are being encouraged to explore their local library.

North Yorkshire County Council is backing National Libraries Week, which begins on Monday (Oct 8).

A series of activities is taking place across the region.

Last year, community groups took over the running of 22 libraries in North Yorkshire – joining nine already under volunteer management.

They include South Craven Community Library, in Cross Hills.

And the county’s model has been highlighted by the Arts Council and Local Government Association as an example of best practice.

County Councillor Greg White (pictured), executive member for libraries, said: “People are passionate about libraries and understand the valuable role they play in our communities.

“We have a brilliant programme of activities during National Libraries Week to show off the wide range of ways that they help with wellbeing.

“The library is free to join and everyone is welcome.

“So if you haven’t yet visited, this is the time to discover your local library.”

For those who struggle to get out, there is a home library and information service which delivers books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs fortnightly.
