FOUR people were taken to hospital – one with serious injuries – following a crash on the Aire Valley trunk road last night.

They were travelling in a Vauxhall Corsa which crashed down an embankment close to the Steeton roundabout.

One of the occupants – who were all females – was flown by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary, with chest and pelvic injuries.

The remainder were taken to Airedale Hospital by road ambulance, with what were believed to be minor injuries.

The car was heading westbound – from Keighley – when the incident happened, at about 8.45pm.

Fire crews from Keighley and Bingley assisted police and paramedics at the scene.

"The car was about 20 feet from the road – in some trees," said Keighley Fire Station watch commander, Greg Pearce.

"All the casualties were out of the vehicle when we arrived.

"We gave medical assistance until the ambulance crews attended, and made the scene safe."

The trunk road was closed in both directions while the emergency services dealt with the incident.
