A KEIGHLEY Rotarian who completed a gruelling length-of-Britain bike ride has presented the proceeds to charity.

Mick Baines cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats – over 950 miles – in ten days.

And his marathon effort coined-in about £5,000.

During his challenge, Mr Baines spent more than 95 hours in the saddle and tackled 38,000 feet of ascents.

The venture raised more than £3,500 for Project 6 – a Keighley-based charity which provides services for individuals and families with drug and alcohol problems – and around £1,600 for Alzheimer’s UK.

Keighley Rotary Club pays tribute to Mr Baines and thanks everyone who supported the challenge.

“He was hosted overnight by members of local Rotary clubs as he progressed up the country and we are very grateful for this support,” said a club spokesman.

“Mick survived the trip with only one near-miss with a car!

“It was an eventful journey but worthwhile with the amount raised for charity.

“We would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who sponsored Mick in his endeavour.”

After the ride, Mr Baines praised all those who had given support.

He added: “Thanks to go to all who have commented and encouraged me, donated to the charities and provided me with overnight accommodation and to my family, especially my wife, who had put up with me talking bikes, routes and rides since January!”
