NURSERY children have gone the extra mile to support a foodbank.
Youngsters at the Airedale Hospital-based Nightingales Day Nursery constructed a ‘food mile’, using donated items.
The initiative was in aid of a foodbank managed by Skipton Baptist Church.
Amy Kitching, paediatric research sister at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’d heard that the foodbank was running low on items so we decided that as a trust it would be really nice to try to do something to help, to coincide with harvest festival.
“We came up with the food mile idea and advertised it across the hospital. We had donations from virtually every department in the trust, including Skipton Hospital.”
Staff donated and collected over 20 boxes packed with food and toiletries.
The trust’s head of chaplaincy, Ron Mulligan, said: “The response shows how staff here care about their community.”
