GLUSBURN Moor farmer David Towell has no reason to feel sheepish.
His Texel shearling ram sold for a top-price 3,000 guineas at Skipton Auction Mart’s multi-breeds showcase for pedigree and pure-bred rams and females.
Mr Towell, who runs the Moor Top flock at Upper Leys Farm, has a good record at the annual event.
His leading ram this year was by Moor Top Yorkie, which sold at last year’s corresponding fixture for 1,400 guineas.
Buyer this time was Norfolk Texel breeder Henry Harvey & Son, a regular visitor to the auction mart from its Waxham base.
Mr Towell’s pen of 18 shearling rams averaged £870 per head, with a further four ram lambs also selling well.
The event attracted a total entry of 1,178 rams and females.
