BRAVE souls are being sought to take part in a second annual Hallowe’en Monster Dash in aid of Manorlands.

The event – which is open to people of all ages – takes place in the grounds of Cliffe Castle, Keighley, on Saturday, October 27.

Participants will arrive in Hallowe’en costume at 6.30pm and receive a head torch, before they set off walking around the park – which will be filled with spooky surprises.

Those surviving the experience will receive a Monster Dash medal at the finish line.

More than 50 people will be involved as actors.

And music, lighting and special effects will add to the ghostly goings-on.

Organising the event is the Sue Ryder hospice’s Riddlesden and East Morton support group, which is also behind the popular PaintRush held at Marley playing fields every summer.

Sponsorship is being provided by Keighley-based Clever Energy Boilers.

Event lead Andrew Wood, a Manorlands-based Sue Ryder fundraiser, said: “Just making your way around Cliffe Castle Park in the dark with a head torch is a little scary, but add to that what we have planned and there could be some sleepless nights for children and adults on the 27th!”

Support group member Bob Tole pays tribute to all those involved in staging the event.

He added: “We’d like to thank our sponsors at Clever Energy Boilers, our hosts at Cliffe Castle and the many groups which are helping out with the scaring of participants.

“Just like last year, this should be a great event.”

Manorlands supports patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families at the Oxenhope hospice and in the community, across an area covering Craven, Airedale and Wharfedale as well as parts of Bradford.

All services are free to patients and their loved ones, but it costs £9,000 a day to keep the hospice doors open.

Only a small part of the cost is covered by statutory funds.

Most of the funds have to be raised through voluntary donations.
