AN EAST Morton ‘man cave’ could win its owner the title of Games Room of the Year.

Paul Craven has lovingly transformed his basement garage into a leisure-time haven for his friends and son.

He regularly invites pals round for Sunday evenings playing pool and darts, listening to the jukebox, watching a big-screen TV, and drinking from the specially-built bar.

Paul, manager at household goods store The Range in Halifax, entered his pride and joy in the Games Room of the Year competition run by Home Leisure Direct, where he bought much of the equipment and decor for the room.

Paul said: “They picked the 10 best rooms and put them on Facebook for people to vote for. The best three win a prize.”

Paul moved into the house in Thornycroft Road in 2013 with wife Kathryn and son Harry, and originally wanted to create a joint games room with his beloved Harley Davison motorbike as the centrepiece.

Paul said: “I’ve had bikes since I was 18. My dad lives in America – he and his wife have Harley Davisons and I’ve always written them when I’m over there.

“The games room took about three months of building work. It was done with the proper planning permission and building regulations, with under-floor heating and proper lighting.

“Every Sunday night there are a few of us in there drinking and playing pool. My son also plays pool with me.”

A spokesman for Home Leisure Direct said: “We had so many amazing entries this year, the standard has just been exceptional!

“Trying to select the best tend to go through to the final voting was really tricky, but we had some great fun seeing amazing games rooms.”

Anyone wishing to vote for Paul’s games room should visit Home Leisure Direct on Facebook.
