AN exhibition of work by youngsters from an award-winning visual arts school is on show at Keighley’s Cliffe Castle Museum.

The display – in the museum’s garden room – features pieces produced during the final weeks of the summer term at Young Masters, which caters mainly for children aged five to 16.

“In our classes children with a diverse range of abilities work alongside – and equally with – other children who love art,” said the head of the school, Virginija Knowles.

“Using professional teachers and artists, we teach observational drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, printing, design and many other artistic techniques.

“For our latest work we started with observational drawing of garden tools and equipment using graphite and charcoal, which helped us to create loose marks and textures and experiment with tone, shadows and light. Then we added a dash of colour, using soft, oil or silky pastels for extra intensity and vigour.”

The exhibition was officially opened on Sunday, by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Keighley councillor Zafar Ali.

It runs until Friday (Oct 26).
