A TOWN councillor became the first person to receive a poppy during this year’s Poppy Appeal in Keighley.

Cllr Peter Corkindale accepted the first poppy from Cadet Mason Myers-Roberts of the Sea Cadet Corps.

The councillor was one of several guests at the Poppy Appeal launch outside the Royal British Legion’s pop-up shop in the Airedale Shopping Centre in Keighley.

Also attending were Royal British Legion members including the standard bearer, organiser Jacqui McGinnis and members of Keighley’s Air Training Corps and Sea Cadet Corps units.

Poppies were sold in Keighley by Legion members and teenagers from the cadet units, with proceeds going to the Legion’s work supporting former service people.
