PEOPLE attending weight loss workshops in Silsden and Shipley responded to a news story about girls and young women missing out on education because they could not afford sanitary products.

The members of these workshops which are run by WW, formerly known as Weight Watchers, decided to take action and contacted the Red Box project, which stocks these boxes of sanitary wear in schools across Bradford district.

They donated hundreds of sanitary items to Red Box, to help combat “Period Poverty” and make sure girls and young women don’t have to choose between buying food or sanitary products.

A WW spokesman said: “Lack of access to suitable sanitary protection is a recognised problem for many girls and young women across Bradford district.

“Families are having to choose between food or sanitary products and as a result this is affecting wellbeing and attendance at school.”

Caroline Settle, a Wellness Coach for WW, said: “The response has been overwhelming and I’m so proud of my members.

“As a coach I support my members with their own wellness, and this was a great way to help the local community.”

People wanting to boost the weight loss class attendees efforts further can contact a local Red Box Project Facebook page, or e-mail redboxprojectuk@gmail.com for more information on boxes in their area.
