A STUDENT nurse has donated her wedding cake to Manorlands patients.

Samantha Knight dropped into the Oxenhope hospice the day after her wedding to let patients and staff have a sweet treat.

Samantha and her husband Martin’s donation came after a James Bond-styled wedding that was kept secret even from guests.

She said she and Martin had been planning their secret wedding for just under two years.

“We wanted little fuss and to really surprise our friends and family. The wedding venue was at the priest house in Bolton Abbey and was a stunning venue.

“It was booked purposefully on Martin’s 30th birthday so we had an excuse for a big event. The invites went out as James Bond theme, secret location, dress to impress. It was just amazing and went exactly to plan on bonfire night weekend.”

Samantha said she thought it was a brilliant idea when her mother suggested she donated her wedding cake to Manorlands.

She said: “I have always had great pleasure in giving to others, a simple act of kindness is not hard and can have a great impact on others. I was absolutely delighted to hear that one of the patients cut the cake and made a wish.”

Lizzie Procter, Hospice Director at Sue Ryder Manorlands, said: “This was an incredibly generous and kind thought. The support we receive from the local community is so important.

“We could not continue to be here without our incredible volunteers, individuals and local businesses who give their time and energy to support the hospice.”

All care services at Manorlands are free of charge. However it costs £3.2 million to run the hospice and only part of these costs are covered by statutory funds.

This year the hospice needs to raise £2.1 million in donations to continue to provide its specialist care services.
