THE Dementia Friendly Keighley (DFK) group has been awarded £500 by Asda Supermarket following a popular vote at the town's store.

Each year Asda invests over £1.4 million in over 4,000 good causes through its Green Token Giving Programme. Three months ago DFK was chosen as one of the three local charities to benefit from the scheme.

Once customers complete their shopping they are given tokens at the checkout and asked to select which of the three charities they would like to support by dropping their token into the appropriate slot.

Once voting has closed the tokens are added up determining first, second and third positions. Last month DFK was in first place, so received £500.

Suzi Ramsbottom, Keighley Asda community champion, presented the cheque to DFK at its office in the Airedale Shopping Centre. The money was accepted by Helen Charters, DFK administrator and volunteer Barbara Wood

Helen said: "We're delighted to receive the £500 cheque from the Asda Green Token Challenge.

"Suzie has been very supportive of us. Our partnership with Asda has helped raise awareness and promote the work we do to support people living with dementia in the Keighley area."

Asda store manager Ray Nicholls said: "Our Green Token Giving scheme is a great way for community groups and charities to boost their fundraising targets.

"Dementia Friendly Keighley have won the recent vote and we were happy to deliver the cheque. Suzie has also worked with DFK by volunteering and supporting the group's various events."
