PARKSIDE School students are Bosom Friends after raising money for a breast cancer charity.

Form 8 Hockney raised £100 for Bosom Friends (Bradford) with their bake sale at the Cullingworth school.

The young people wanted to thank all students and staff for contributing the “beautiful” bakes, along with those who went along to buy them.

Food teacher Sarah Trowers said: "Special thanks to Keira Sunderland, Ruth Nicholson, Holly Stott and Olivia Marsden who ran the bake sale with great confidence and organisation."

Bosom Friends (Bradford) was set up 30 years ago by Sister Norma Russell, a Bradford breast care nurse, to provide friendship, help and support to those with breast cancer and to their families.

Although now run by patients, the group is often visited by the NHS Breast Care Team to give updates on treatments and new surgical techniques.

The group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7pm at the Cancer Support Centre on Smith Lane, Bradford. Activities include talks, jewellery parties and belly dancing, and every October there is a fundraising fashion show.

The group’s funds are used to benefit women being treated in Bradford, ranging from financial support by specialised underwear, to funding a complementary therapist, and furniture and home comforts for the Breast Care Ward.
