A GROUP working to make Keighley more inviting for people with dementia has launched a new website.

Dementia Friendly Keighley (DFK) developed the facility to showcase the work it does and to raise the profile of dementia in the community.

Maggie Marsden, a DFK founder, said: "The website covers practically everything we do.

"One of our major activities is recruiting dementia friends. On our home page we keep a running total of the number of friends we have so far, with a breakdown of what part of the community they come from.

"There's also a link to register for an information session and become one of our newest friends. Our target is to reach 5,000 friends by 2020."

Helen Charters, DFK’s administrator who is responsible for the running of the website, said: "The site's launch has been great as part of our social media strategy to raise awareness and promote support for people living with dementia.

"The blog has been particularly useful in communicating the work we're doing with black and minority ethnic communities and changing the way the whole of Keighley thinks, talks and acts about dementia.”

Downloadable versions of DFK's information flyers on the activities it runs are available on the website. The site also features "What's on" information, a link to the DFK workplace scheme and a page where anyone interested in volunteering can find out more.
