OXENHOPE cyclist Ryan Anderton has bagged both Land’s End and John O’Groats during his Round Britain ride.

The charity cyclist reached the northernmost tip of Scotland this week after conquering England and Wales in recent weeks.

He is now continuing on his way round the Scottish coast before riding down through Cumbria and Lancashire down to Cumbria to return to his starting point of Blackpool.

Ryan is regularly uploading photographs and video reports of his ride to Facebook, while his sister uses social media to seek people around the coast willing to give him a bed for the night.

Ryan this week posted: “Day 32 started by ticking off another landmark section of the ride by reaching John O’Groats, and being treated to coffees and cakes at Halladale Inn.

“The route across the top of Scotland was a wiggly winding lumpy and bumpy road, probably the worst road surface I have cycled on.”

Ryan, 38, embarked on his cycle ride to help build his own positive attitude, after battling for years with depression and behavioural issues. He is also raising money and awareness of mental-health charity Mind.

He has been delighted with the reaction of people he has met on the 4,802-mile journey. Starting training this March, he launched the “Recycle Yourself” campaign to recognise his need to ‘start again’.
