A KEIGHLEY town centre business lost hundreds of pounds worth of gifts and equipment when a thief broke into the premises.

DollyRockers hair and beauty salon, in Devonshire Street, was raided early in the morning last Friday. (Nov 16)

CCTV captured the moment when a man carrying a large rock hurled it at the salon’s front window. Initially it bounced off, but the window gave way when the man threw the rock a second time, allowing him to climb in.

Michelle Hargreaves, who co-owns the business with Louise Fletcher and Claire Ettenfield, said the thief was in the salon for at least 10 minutes, during which time he ransacked the property and stole seven £150 Christmas gift packs, a similar number of Cloud Nine hair straighteners.

“I’m disgusted by it,” she added. “We’ve got CCTV of the man coming out of an alley a little higher up the street, which is where we think he got the rock from.

“He made a mess inside the salon, pulling everything out of drawers and from inside desks. We still managed to open for business properly at midday later that day, but had to cancel a couple of earlier appointments so we’ve lost some earnings.

“We’ve been here just over two years but it’s the first time something like this has happened.”

She asked people to be on the lookout for anyone trying to informally sell off the stolen goods. CCTV images show the burglar to be a slim built man, wearing dark coloured trousers, a light coloured top and possibly a baseball cap.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the burglary happened at about 2.42am last Friday. Any witnesses are asked to contact police on 101 or phone Crimestoppers at 0800 555111.
