YOUNG trials bike champion Jonnie Fannon is revving-up for his next 'challenge'.

The ten-year-old is to switch-on Silsden's Christmas lights.

Sunday's (Nov 25) ceremony will be the culmination of a day of festive activities in the town.

A Christmas market takes place from 10am, when the town hall will be packed with craft and gift stalls.

There will be children's rides in Briggate, which will be closed to traffic.

Drystone Radio will be in attendance.

A rolling Nativity begins at about 2.45pm, visiting hostelries in the town and singing carols.

Silsden Town Band will perform at the bandstand from 3pm, which will be followed by a carol service.

And Silsden Primary School pupil Jonnie will illuminate the town's seasonal displays at 4.30pm.

Organisers are delighted the youngster is doing the honours.

"Jonnie lives in Silsden and is a trials bike champion – having ridden for a number of years," said a spokesman.

"He won the OSET Cup North in 2017 and this year, and came fourth in the ACU British Nationals.

"Trials bike riding is a controlled and technical sport, with national-level riders riding for over six hours."
