PUPILS from a Keighley school took part in a special awareness day designed to offer them a better understanding of the Fire Service.
The students from University Academy Keighley (UAK) spent a day at Keighley Fire Station for an event which highlighted some of the issues faced by firefighters.
The aim was to help them become ambassadors, so they can share safety messages with their peers.
A mixed group of boys and girls from years eight to 10 started the day with a tour of the Bradford Road station. As well as being shown the fire engines and other equipment, they completed a fire safety and awareness quiz.
They then got kitted out in protective clothing to take part in practical exercises, using the hoses and trying out a rescue scenario for themselves.
UAK's lead for behaviour and attendance, Pill Allen, said: “The most memorable part of the day for the students was the rescue scenario.
"Their engagement in the activity was amazing, and they were a credit to UAK.
"Our students represented the community positively and their commitment to taking the message to others is commendable.
"Everyone found the day very insightful and it brought a deeper understanding and respect for the Fire and Rescue Service.”
