A TALK about England's King Richard III along with readings from a local woman's books about the monarch held the attention of young and old alike in Cross Roads.

The event at The Kitchen Cafe Bar, in Haworth Road, was attended by pupils from three schools, accompanied by parents and grandparents.

The talk and readings were delivered by Cross Roads resident Carol Fellingham Webb, who writes under the pen name Alex Marchant.

She said: "The children and adults seemed to enjoy my brief talk together with the book readings.

"I'd like to say an enormous 'thank you' to The Kitchen's fabulous owner Sarah and her staff for staying open late to host us. It was really kind of them and made for a hugely enjoyable afternoon.

"As a result of the event, I've been invited to visit schools in the New Year.

"These include Lees Primary for a presentation to older children about my books and the history involved, and Bradford's Grange Technology College, to talk to its year seven and eight book club about King Richard and his place in history, and about writing in general.

"I've also been invited back to the International School in Brussels which I visited last month, for activities with the whole school."

Ms Fellingham Webb is author of The Order of the White Boar, which tells the story of the final three years of King Richard’s life, and The King’s Man, which continues the story of the monarch up to his death in battle.
