GOOD causes in Keighley have been encouraged to consider seeking support from one of two town council grant funds.

Keighley Town Council has highlighted the financial assistance available via its Acorn and Oak grants.

Councillor Barry Thorne, chairman of the town council's finance and audit committee, said: "We have three funding schemes in place for grant funding and would like the community in Keighley to be aware of them so we can support local good causes.

"The town council is obliged to ensure that monies granted represent value for the people of Keighley.”

The council's Acorn Fund offers grants of up to £250 for projects unlikely to find another source of cash. The council money can be given to any person or group which has a community project or needs financial support to hire and purchase items for this activity.

The Oak Fund is also designed for initiatives which benefit the wider community. It offers grants above £250 and less than £1,000.

A spokesman for the town council said: "If this is part of a larger project then applicants would also need to complete a breakdown of that project, detailing costings from other funding which they expect to receive and full accounts.

"For grants or sponsorship exceeding £1,000, organisations may wish to apply for a bigger pot of money. The criteria from the Oak fund will be applied."

People interested in applying for a town council grant can download and complete an application form, which is available on the grants section of the website keighley.gov.uk

Forms can alternatively be obtained on request from the Keighley town clerk's office.

The town council is now also offering grants directly through its own councillors for local, small projects. Each town councillor has up to £2,000 to distribute. Details of town councillors' contacts and the areas they represent can be found at keighley.gov.uk
