FANCY starting the New Year by pulling on your boots and grabbing some silly headgear? Then why not join the annual Funny Hat and Wig Walk on January 1 as it wends its way alongside a river and canal?

The family ramble, led by volunteer guides Barbara Walker and Gillian Dale, will follow a 4.5-mile circular route also taking in a viaduct, aqueduct and the Five Rise Locks. Meet at 12.30pm outside Bingley Arts Centre.

The second Bradford Council Countryside Service guided walk of 2019 is entitled Tour de Cullingworth, and will be on January 9. The six-mile circular route will use field paths and tracks in the vicinity of the now-dismantled railway line from Thornton to Bradford.Meet Barbara Walker at 10.30am at Cullingworth War Memorial.

Lund’s Tower above Sutton is the destination of a seven-mile circular walk on January 20, involving a ramble along the beck, a climb up to the tower, and an easy return. Meet Ken Allen Senior at 10.30am at the Post Box, Eastburn, on the main road.
