AT the beginning of December, St. Mary’s, Menston was lucky enough to be chosen to take part in a Creative Media Camp (CMC) run in association with ITV.

The two-day programme was designed to give young people a fun learning experience and a chance to experience first-hand what it is like to work on a live marketing and advertising brief.

Twenty-five Year 9 GCSE Media students were given the opportunity to attend the workshop and their brief was to encourage young people into taking up apprenticeships at ITV. They were mentored by two ITV professionals who work on the set of Emmerdale.

The winning group, consisting of six students, was chosen by the ITV mentors and this week they attended the Emmerdale Studio at ITV, Leeds. The team competed against two other Leeds secondary schools, the brief again being to create a method for ITV to advertise its apprenticeships. Pupils then had to present their ideas to an audience of 30 people and to a judging panel of four ITV executives. The St. Mary's pupils designed and built an interactive app for young people which enabled them to watch interviews from current apprentices and link up to ITV's social media platforms.

The morning also included a tour around the Emmerdale experience, seeing all the set designs, special effects, costume design and ending with lunch in The Woolpack pub!

St. Mary’s are delighted to announce that after a very tough competition, the team were awarded first place. Congratulations to Maisie Munnelly, Eleanor Brady, Alexandre Dias, Jack Lay, Noah Northway and Ryan De Lima who created a fantastic project and presented with such confidence and eloquence.
