KEIGHLEY MP John Grogan dropped into a coffee morning to chat with parents and carers of youngsters with autism in Keighley.
He visited the monthly session of Café Eden at Keighley College to learn more about the challenges and rewards of looking after their children.
Café Eden was set up by Fiona Thompson, a member of the Partnership Board of Keighley regeneration group Big Local.
Fiona said: “John listened to everything we had to say – the anxiety, the tears, and we also managed to have a few laughs.
“John is a member of the Autism All-Party Parliamentary Group, so he will take our ideas, views and thoughts to Parliament.
“This is fantastic: the more we raise awareness, the more information reaches the organisations and people who can help make a difference that is for the better.”
Big Local coordinator Shaun O’Hare said Café Eden received support from the college, nearby supermarket Asda, and autism support organisation AWARE.
He said: “Café Eden is a small project with big impact. Fiona has initiated something which is making to make a big difference.”
The next Café Eden Sessions will be on January 11, February 8, March 8, April 12, May 10, June 14, July 12, September 13, October 11, November 8 and December 13. The Friday sessions run from 10am to 11.30am.
